SEND A MESSAGE TO MARK CARNEY & HIS NEW GOVERNMENT

Congratulations on your election win.

I believe adults should have the right to choose where they purchase Health Canada authorized, legal products - especially if it can have a positive health benefit.

In August 2024, the previous Minister of Health removed Health Canada approved nicotine pouches, a product that helps people quit smoking, from convenience stores. It is my understanding that this product is the only approved nicotine pouch for sale in Canada and it can help smokers quit smoking. This is a good thing for public health.

For these pouches to only be available in pharmacies makes no sense. They should be available where people buy cigarettes. If someone is in line to buy a pack of cigarettes and sees an option to help then quit, they might be more inclined to try it and quit. That's a good thing.

Convenience stores are already trusted to sell age-restricted products like tobacco, alcohol and lottery tickets. Why are they not trusted to sell nicotine pouches?

While I appreciate you have a long list of priorities, I hope you will take a good look at this unnecessary, and frankly, harmful regulation. A commitment from you to overturn it, would go a long way to making me feel like you are truly listening to the average Canadian like me.

Thank you,
